The Founding
New Covenant's beginnings.
“We’re ready.”
Adam Moore looked at his closest friend with a smile. It had taken them a long time to become ready, but it had all come together.
Thinking back to the beginning of the journey, Adam could not believe everything had worked.
Ten years previously, in 2082, it began with a simple post on a microblogging website, Patriot Talk.
They’re going to come for your children- Adam
It got a few responses, but the next few posts went viral. Before long, his comments were reposted by very influential conservatives. Adam enjoyed that people listened to him.
After a lackluster career in the military and retiring as a Major at 42, Adam became the head of a genetics labs. His first love was finding ways to improve humans, which was important given the sad dilution they had undergone in the previous few hundred years. Helping people ensure their children were born with the best possible genes was incredibly rewarding.
Then Adam realized the answer. A secluded place for people to live by true Christian values and morals. He just needed to find like-minded people to join him. Unsurprisingly, it was not too hard to find people disillusioned enough to want to make a change. Over the decades, America had descended into a regular Sodom, and people were fed up.
Adam made some references to his long career in the military. After a while, a follower started calling him General. It caught on, until Adam himself took on the moniker.
Things started slow. A few vague comments, allusions, and bold statements was all it took to convince people things were only going to get worse. Then, someone asked what could be done. Luckily, Adam had an answer. He created a private group on Patriot Talk where he could be a little more open. Questioning racial mixing, the war on Christianity, and the routine endangering of children the country had condoned for too long, Adam was thrilled when someone suggested starting a community.
Then the aliens arrived. Two hideous monsters landed in Chad, and the world went mad. Adam knew the arrival of demons would light a fire under his followers. They realized everything Adam said was true. Widespread acceptance of Satan’s tricks left them terrified for the future.
It snowballed from there. Adam came up with a plan. He took deposits from interested people and bought several hundred acres of land. To ensure he took in only the best, he had candidates send in DNA samples, medical exams, psychological profiles, pictures, and references. Many didn’t make the cut.
Adam and his friend, Zack, fed all the information into their proprietary Artificial Intelligence to find suitable matches. They only accepted single people with no children, who had passed their standards for heritage, health, age, and skills. 998 men, plus Adam and Zack, and 1000 women would pair off to create the next generation of Christians.
People arrived slowly at first, then in larger numbers. The fee for entry was substantial, but no one would need their cursed American currency in the community. Whatever people had left, they exchanged for new bills, printed with the seal of the project: New Covenant.
Adan stood in the half-built church with everyone who had taken the leap into a new world.
“Welcome, fellow Soldiers of God. We’re here to take a step toward securing a future for our children, where they will be able to grow up secure and peaceful. We are creating the Christian land that America should have been, where men and women do their duties and live the values of the Bible.” Adam looked around and smiled at the people who looked up at him with their hopes and dreams written on their faces.
Zack stepped forward. “Now, if you will all follow us, we will officially close the gate and start our new lives.”
The massive group walked down the road to the newly installed iron gate. Two men took a cue from Adam and pulled it closed. The ringing clang signaled a new era as people cheered.
They had received their job assignments, purchased their homes, and paired with their spouse. Bylaws required they begin producing children within three years, to ensure everything would continue on for generations. Adam looked at his assigned wife. Of course he got first choice. She was 27, blonde, and quiet. Perfect for him.
Zack put a hand on Adam’s shoulder.
“To think, a few years ago we were just two guys kicking around ideas. Right, Kyle?”
Adam looked at him for a moment. “It’s Adam now, officially.”
“Of course, Adam. Now, we need to discuss defense. It will not take long for those demon freaks to begin their assault.”
“I have some ideas,” said Adam. “I am, after all, the General.”
